Can Unique Building Group Handle Large Scale Projects?

Not all commercial framing subcontractors are suited for large-scale construction. When GCs are faced with complicated projects, they need to be able to turn to a subcontractor who they can trust to get the job done right.

At Unique Building Group (UBG), we’re not afraid to think big. Not only can we handle large-scale projects, but we specialize in them. Some of our typical projects include 500K+ sqft. of light gauge steel and 1 million sqft. of drywall. We tackle large-scale projects every day, and we’ve also earned an industry reputation for developing innovative and creative solutions that meet both aesthetic and safety requirements.

Our ability to think creatively and tackle projects other subcontractors can’t handle, combined with our commitment to deliver work on-time and on-budget makes UBG one of the top framing partners on the west coast. If you’re looking for an excellent subcontractor for a large project, here are three reasons why UBG should be your first choice:

We Have The Expertise

With over 30 years of providing large-scale framing & building envelope solutions, our teams are experts at what we do. Some of our top GC partners turn to UBG for:

  • Framing and Drywall
We specialize in both exterior framing and interior drywall, including structural and non-structural light gauge framing and gypsum wallboard assemblies.
  • Cladding Solutions & Panel Systems
We professionally install high-performance cladding solutions with water-resistant barriers and specialty finishes including lath, plaster, and EIFS.
  • Rainscreen Systems
Large-scale solutions that are not only aesthetically appealing but also offer significant protection from various types of adverse weather.

To supplement our work on the job, we incorporate technology into all that we do. We’re constantly investing in the latest software and onsite solutions that help improve performance and efficiently manage projects. Our willingness to evolve and stay on top of the latest trends has enabled our firm to scale and seamlessly tackle large-scale projects.

Lastly, but most importantly, safety is and has always been our number one priority. We’re committed to creating a safe work environment for every person who steps on the job site. Our firm’s safety program significantly exceeds OSHA standards. Whether it’s rigorous year-round training or daily safety meetings, our team is ready from day one.

We Have The Leadership

One of the many reasons UBG is equipped to handle large-scale commercial construction is its veteran leadership team. Brothers Richard Thompson (CEO) and Paul Thompson (COO) have been working in commercial construction since the 1980s and have been leading UBG for more than 30 years. Over this timeframe, the two have become industry leaders and have personally managed a wide array of large-scale projects.

Michelle McNamara (CAO) adds another 15 years of experience, and her dedication to continuous improvement projects has directly impacted our firm’s expertise and has helped UBG gain the experience necessary to tackle complex construction projects.

The diversity and expertise of our leadership team are two of many things that set us apart from our competition. At UBG, we act and behave with integrity and honesty, we promote a respectful environment, and we’re also focused on professional development. Our leaders work to set these examples for the entire organization.

We Have The Experience

While our expertise and leadership drive high-quality results for our partners, we let our work speak for itself. We drive ourselves to achieve excellence in each and every job. Over the years, we’ve delivered numerous complex construction projects on-time and on-budget. Below are a few examples of the many large-scale projects we’ve worked on:

  • Block 19 – This massive luxury apartment building was a complex construction project and a huge success. Unique Building Group was tasked with installing a significant amount of light gauge metal framing, drywall, and EIFS. This job required over 500K lft. of light gauge studs and 200K lft. of light gauge track. UBG actually helped to speed up the project schedule and save significant costs for our partners by being flexible and stepping out construction sequence.
  • Flight At TustinAt UBG, we’re not afraid to get creative. A huge business campus in Tustin California, Flight At Tustin spans more than 20 acres. The project required more than 300K square feet of framing solutions and 1,000,000 square feet of drywall. UBG was challenged to come up with a solution for 30-foot storefront openings without kickers. We used large cold-formed framing box headers to construct the openings, which met both the safety and aesthetic requirements of the project.
  • Bighorn Golf Clubhouse and Penthouses
Speaking of large projects, UBG’s expertise came in handy when it came to framing this 80,000 square foot clubhouse. The unique design of this building included rounded shapes along the radius of the building. The project called for ACM panels which weren’t a viable option. UBG was able to recommend EIFS panels instead, which allowed us to finish the project early, save money, and also maintain the aesthetic design of this beautiful building. At the end of the day, we installed 300K lft. of light gauge steel studs, 400K sqft. of drywall, 2 million lbs. of structural steel, and 1 million pounds of rebar.

When working with UBG, you can rest assured that you’re working with the best in the business, and we don’t shy away from projects because of size. Large or small, we’re committed to delivering complex construction projects on-time and on-budget every time for our partners and clients.
